My Weekly Explorations 👀
Beyond the Scroll
Last week, I took a closer look at how Instagram keeps us hooked, and it was eye-opening. It’s wild to think about how every scroll feels like a little rush of satisfaction, lighting up my brain with each new post. I found myself reflecting on my habits—how easily I can get lost in Reels or scroll through endless wedding photos.
In my conversations with friends, we discussed how the fast-paced, visually stimulating nature of Instagram affects us. It seems our brains, especially as part of the "Instagram generation," crave that constant influx of new content. I noticed that while I enjoy the instant satisfaction it provides, it doesn’t compare to deeper interactions—like a meaningful chat over coffee or getting lost in a good book.
I read an article that explained how social media interactions activate our brains differently. It made me think about the balance I need to strike. This week, I’m aiming to be more intentional about my screen time and seek out those richer, more meaningful experiences instead.
Anecdote on Regrets
Last week, I reflected on a powerful thought: "Regret is always more traumatizing than fear." This idea hit home as I considered the fears that often hold me back. I realized that many of us face common anxieties.
For instance, the fear of change can keep us stuck in our comfort zones, leading to regrets about missed opportunities for growth. Similarly, fear of commitment—whether in relationships or projects—can leave us longing for deeper connections we never pursued.
This week, I’m focusing on action over fear. I want to embrace challenges and tackle the discomfort that comes with them. I remind myself that it’s better to try and fail than to wonder "what if." By confronting my fears, I hope to create a life filled with fewer regrets and more fulfilling experiences.
A Little Book of Happiness by Ruskin Bond📚
This week, I dove into A Little Book of Happiness by Ruskin Bond, and it struck a chord with me. One of my favourite quotes from the book is, “I may not have contributed towards the progress of civilization, but neither have I robbed the world of anything. Even the spider on the wall is welcome to his space. After all, he gives me mine, and we are both at peace.”
This beautifully illustrates the importance of coexistence and finding peace in our surroundings.
The book emphasizes that happiness comes from within and encourages us to embrace our current circumstances instead of overthinking them. I loved the quote, “To find happiness, look halfway between too little and too much,” as it reminds me to appreciate the present and the simple joys of life.
Bond challenges us to rethink how we define happiness—not through reasons or achievements, but by simply being present in the moment. By the end, I felt a renewed sense of gratitude and happiness.
This book is a wonderful reminder to take a genuine interest in the little details of daily life, making it a must-read for anyone seeking joy.
Cleanliness Spree for your Mind: Diwali edition
This Diwali, let’s focus on “mental house cleaning” alongside our usual decluttering. Here are five effective tips to clear your mind and enhance your well-being:
Declutter Your Thoughts: Just as we clean our homes, take time to identify and release negative thoughts. Keep a journal to jot down worries, then set them aside, creating mental space for positivity.
Practice Gratitude: Each day leading up to Diwali, write down three things you’re grateful for. This simple exercise helps shift your focus from what’s lacking to appreciating the blessings in your life.
Limit Obsessive Thinking: When you catch yourself fixating on trivial matters, pause and ask yourself, “Is this worth my energy?” Redirect your thoughts to actionable steps that bring you closer to your goals.
Be Present: During the celebrations, put away distractions. Engage fully with friends and family, savouring each moment and fostering meaningful connections.
Surround Yourself Wisely: Spend time with positive, uplifting people. Choose a gathering that inspires you and enhances your festive spirit.
This Diwali, let’s commit to nurturing inner peace and happiness, lighting up our minds just as we illuminate our homes!
How to make the best use of Google India Careers?
Google India gets over 2 million applications every year! That’s crazy competition, right? So, if you're serious about landing a job there, you’ve got to be smart about it.
Here’s how to hack the system and make your job search way more effective in 2024.
First, head to the official Google Careers India page. But don’t just scroll through everything, use the skills and qualifications filter. Trust me, this makes a huge difference.
By narrowing down your search, you’ll be way more likely to find roles that actually fit your profile (in fact, doing this increases your chances by about 50%, based on current trends).
Once you find a role that speaks to you, you can either create a profile and apply right away or email yourself the link to apply later. Google has even streamlined their application process in 2024, making it easier to track your progress.
The process itself? Here’s how it typically goes:
After applying, if your profile matches, you’ll get a screening call from HR. Only about 25% of applicants make it to this stage, so it’s a key moment.
Next up, 4-5 rounds of interviews, each about 45 minutes long. Google’s hiring timeline in 2024 usually runs around 6-8 weeks, so be ready for a bit of a wait, but it’s worth it!
And here’s a pro tip: If you find a role that you think you’re perfect for, hit me up on LinkedIn with the job link and a quick write-up on why you’re a great fit.
I’d be happy to help, but only if your profile’s relevant and you’ve done your homework. With Google’s hiring process more competitive than ever, this approach can help you stand out.
